Winner of best decorated stall at Pontypridd market, Coronation celebrations, 1953

Description

As part of the celebrations held to mark the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953, a competition for the best-decorated stall was held at Pontypridd indoor market. This photograph shows the winner of the competition, Mr Alfred John, holding his award while Emanuel Joseph Bloomer, principal shareholder in the Market Company, can be seen in his chain of office.

The person holding the 1st Prize award is Emlyn John, butcher. Alfred John is the short gentleman in front to the left of the photograph. They were not related as far as I know. Alfred "Alfie" was my great uncle.
