Stretcher cases going on board hospital ship, First World War

Description

The location of this photograph is unclear. A note on the reverse indicates that soldier Robert Vernon Carter Williams of Talycafn may have been one of the stretcher cases being carried onto the ship. The faded note reads 'stretcher case (myself) going on board hospital transport Carisbrooke Castle, Salonika.' There is no information to indicate that Williams spent time in the Mediterranean during the war therefore it is unclear where this photograph was taken. The Carisbrooke Castle served as a Hospital Ship bringing injured troops back from the Western Front before becoming an Army Troop Shop in the Mediterranean for much of the war.
