Albert Joseph Rees was born at 2 Gwendoline Terrace, Cwmfelin, Maesteg and enlisted in Newport. He was the cousin of Hiram Davies, who lived with his grandmother in number 3, and whose mother lived in number 1. While Hiram enlisted with the 10th Regiment of Royal Welch Fusiliers, Albert became a member of the 2nd Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment (formerly 1881162 of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary). He died of fever while in Salonika, Greece, on 11 January 1918.
