Discharge papers of John Chadwick, a First World War soldier from Broughton [image 1 of 2]

Description

John Chadwick from Broughton was born in 1896 and served during the First World War. He was wounded at Mametz Wood in France in 1916 and was sent back to Britain on 16 July. He received a serious leg wound and was gassed and was thus discharged as "no longer physically fit for service". His final discharge date was 20 August 1917. These papers were to be carried with the discharged soldier at all times as an explanation of why he was no longer serving.
