John Henry Absalom, Welsh Regt

John Henry Absalom was born in September 1898, the second of three sons born to Owen and Lydia Absalom of Causeway farm, Camrose, near Haverfordwest. He joined the 14th Battalion Welsh Regiment (known as the 'Swansea Pals' - he was Private no. 29148) and he sailed for France in December 1915. He was killed, aged 17, on 10 July 1916, which means that he died at the Battle of Mametz Wood. He is remembered at the Thiepval memorial in France and also on the Haverfordwest memorial and on a plaque in Camrose church.
