Description

This news clipping reports on the Portmadoc Council's decision on whether to support the proposed holiday camp at Penychain on the Llen Peninsula. Despite overall support by local authorities, there were concerns even at this stage of the impact of the holiday camp on Welsh culture and the moral and religious life of the area. Despite these concerns, the camp would offer employment to local men, particularly ex-servicemen, and support the tourist industry in this part of Wales. Those opposed brought up the issue of alcohol, the use of valuable agricultural land for a holiday camp, and the possible negative impact on Welsh culture.
