Picture 1 shows an aluminium slab rolled to 6.35mm on the 2Hi reversing Robertson Hot Mill installed in 1959. Picture 2 shows a coil weighing about 435kgs ( coil density 0.7kg/mm) on the Loewy-Robertson 4 High constant gap cold mill installed in 1965, which was the most modern strip mill installed in the UK at this time. It suffered with poor yields due to very small coil size which related to the relatively underpowered 2 High break down mill. Picture 3 shows a 60" wide Davy 4 High non-reversing hand fed mill which was installed in 1982, after the closure of the British Aluminium Rheola Works. It was used to cross roll the AA2004 superplastic sheet alloy for Superform Metals in Worcester, UK. Latterly the Davy Mill also produced large quantities of 7mm AA1070A plate for the Canadian electrolytic zinc industry for use as cathode plates until closure in 2007.
