This video film was recorded at Ernie's home in Penparcau, Wales in July 2025. This is the first of two videos, in which Ernie shares his story of National Service and beyond with the viewers.  Having opted for regular service when answering the 'call up', Ernie went on to complete five years in the RAF as a Firefighter between 1952 and 1957. The first video begins with Ernie explaining where he grew up, moving onto to joining the RAF, training and his first year at RAF Llandwrog. The interview was undertaken by Age Cymru Dyfed Veteran team.
