Description

Letter from Edward Thomas to his wife, Helen Thomas. Archival reference: 424/1/1/1/1/123
[illegible] conservership is a great phrase, and an interesting addition to the body of humans. I shall take care to introduce it into Oxford. All the same, it is a foul insult to Irene.

I long for my meeting with you. Only I am a little disturbed at the thought that perhaps to lie with you would be unfair to the child. You must be sure that this is not so and tell me; then we must [illegible] manoeuvre, if the ordinary method could be dangerous. Let me know quickly.

My dearest friend.
It is my viva voce on Friday, I shall return on Saturday at lunchtime. The exam was unusually hard and out of the way, and under 60% will get me through, I fear I shall be ploughed. However I have peace of mind for a few das and ahve already resumed
history energetically.

Yesterday I spent wholly out of doors on the hills with
Morgan. As usual, we got on very well together. We were in
good spirits, tho our talk ranged from graveyards upwards to
the sky. A third person always spoils our walks and we
seldom permit one. If there is a third, some one is continually
finding himself second fiddle, and so all are displeased in

him.

The cake that came on Sunday was a delightful send off to
me. To learn how well you are is one of my few pleasures.
The Coleride(sic) letters will be an acquisition, I hope you succeed in
finding the 1st volume.

The invitation to the Jukes [illegible] opens a very pleasant
prospect tho I fear we shall not be able to enjoy it till the
next long vacation. It is really wonderfully kind for I
suppose he knows nothing about me, at least.
This week is going to be very tedious, but I go out now to begin getting [illegible] time.
Adieu!
I am ever and wholly yours, my own sweet little one,
Edwy.
Adieu, and write soon
