LINCOLN COLLEGE
OXFORD

My dearest friend

Yesterday at 4 I
was coming fast downhill from the
high plateau of Shotover, four miles
out of Oxford, & commanding a
round view of the city and the
Country South & North. I was with
Morgan, and we had enjoyed the
day very much. It was mild & brisk.

We both get along very well now, &
tolerate one another's weak moments &
Exploitings of the obvious, in true
friendly style. With us as with you,

As for writing, my total for this
term is 2-1/4 pages. I have no
news from Literature or elsewhere.

Pardon this scrap: I am really
very busy. But write soon

I am Ever & wholly Yours,
My own sweet little one, Edwy.
Adieu
the sunset was impressive. There
were ridgy bars of hard golden land
in the westward, radiating as clouds
do at sunset from some point above
the W. horizon. But it was not a
good piece of God's work, being confused &
showing a botched arrangement
of colours, which only night set
right again. It is always a peak
experience to tramp in to Oxford
from the East at sunset, approaching
it thro rows of willows & plantatins (sic)
of (illegible) and oak. The tea taken when
one gets home has a flavour unlike
everything else on earth.

About the Pallen Rd, books
The Arabian Nights are no use :
return the vols. I left behind (for I
have one here.) Is there also
a little brown Edition of Hazlitt
& his Thos Browne ? Return
the Rossetti by all means. But
be careful what books you do
return. - You never sent me
a catalogue of books for sale
at Pallen Rd.

I am reading naught but
Divinity - in fact reading
hardly any History : and I
shall be glad when the beastly
thing is over on Saturday.
