LINCOLN COLLEGE
OXFORD
15.5..1900.
My dearest friend,
The Lincoln boats made a bump in fine style yesterday afternoon, and will do so again today & probably on ensuing days. But the towing path was swamped by thawing snow through which I and the rest had to make our way; for of course the whole college runs alongside to encourage the boats.
Elsey, who is cox, was very elated, & gave me a delightful hour of his company after Hall last night. )
The fact is - arose late ; then had to call on a tutor ; then amused myself till luncheon at a billiard table with Elsey ; so got no work done. We shall probably go to the service at Magdalen College Chapel at 6, So I shall have a very full night of work. The Magdalen service is practically a concert the congregation is requested to be silent all the time; the choir is perhaps the finest in the world; the chapel very fine.
With love & kisses to you & ( ?) Merfyn my own sweet little one I am ever wholly yours Edwin Goodnight

fancy we get on rather better now, though I am still afraid of the evil intentions of certain members of the college whom his good looks only incite to indecent thoughts.
You shall see his photograph when I come back in March : it is not good but shows you the possibilities of his face .
This now the finest day of all the year, blue & bright, and in a few minutes shall be off to see the races with Davies & ( Hurran?)
Tell Ernest his second caricature was not a success; but that I shall soon send him the original one to take copies from.
Thank you for the photographs & the ( conquests?) of curiosity.
Is Mother going to send me provisions or am I to buy them myself ?
For I am in want of everything except Quaker Oats, sugar or tea.
Excuse this series of ( illegible).
