Description
Letter from Edward Thomas to the poet Gordon Bottomley. No address, [Aug 1911]. Archival ref: 424/1/1/1/10/158
1911 August
My dear Gordon, Many many thanks.
You ay be older but you correct
proofs with your youthful perfection.
I think I have adopted all your corrections
& suggestions also. I think you will
see that I agree with you about the
superiority of the earlier Maeter-
linck as you get on. but I am
very sorry to see how much
I have allowed my intense
xxx with the late work
to give a carping & irritable
tone to what I say about the
earlier. I ought to have
rewritten it all but was
unaware until too late. But
I am more & more oppressed by
necessity & the curiousness of it
& unless I meet some good fortune
things are likely to get even worse.
Apparently I shall have to
increase my income yet
submit to a decrease in the
price of my work. The only
chance in that is the haste &
pressure of much work I may
stumble upon myself again &
a stronger self
Yours ever
E T
