My dear Gordon
I have been think of you every day since
Christmas & wondering how you are. We did
not hear from you. Was it a slip of the post
or are you ill or are you simply like everyone else
too modern now for Christmas cards? I
only hope you are not ill, & it is to ask you to say
you are not that I write. I am taking 3 days
holiday with some friends after getting to the
end of the beastly Maeterlinck. I reached it on
Friday last. It is merely a chronological
series of reviews of each of his books with
a Conclusion & a semi-biographical intro-
duction. His early plays are his best work
That is my firm opinion & I expect you
will agree. Now I am going to arrange a
volume like 'Rest & unrest' for Duckworth's.
It will be no better I expect. De la Mare's ' Mulla
Mulgars' was a wonderful book that grew out
of a story told to his children. He is doing
many good poems. Davis has revived again &
he has done some wonderful chapters about women
he has known - which no publisher
probably will ever take. They are chastely
expressed but they are true. Send me a
bulletin on a postcard please & give our love
to Emily.
Yours ever
Edward thomas
