Valleys Kids, Visual Arts - The Front Room Project

Description

The Front Room – Pop Up Art Installation inspired by a sense of what ‘Home’ means.

Funded by the Genesis Foundation, this Genesis Kickstart Project enabled Valleys Kids’ artist in residence Anne Culverhouse Evans to employ three freelance artists; Sharon Magill, Kelly Havard Jones and Drew Richards, to create a Front Room that was taken around different venues as a ‘Pop Up’ installation.

The Pop-Up Front Room was made from large sheets of cardboard to create the walls, the striped wallpaper painstakingly hand drawn and stamped with a fleur-de-lis pattern.

Visiting different locations in Wales, the Pop-Up Front Room was set up in a variety of spaces.  It became a safe place to meet someone from a different community, share conversations and memories. The chance to ask questions, discover how others live and what their memories of family rooms looked like.

We engaged with numerous audiences, families, individuals, all who had their own memories to share.
