The Jenkins Family, 10 Bank Street, Maesteg about 1926

Description

Historical Context: Maesteg in the 1920s

At this time, Maesteg was a bustling coal mining hub. A formal portrait like this taken in the backyard  indicates a significant family occasion, such as a wedding anniversary or a homecoming. Despite the industrial setting of the Llynfi Valley, the family were clearly keeping up with the cosmopolitan fashions of the decade.
