PhotoVoice in Taibach

Description

Eastern Primary school took part in a PhotoVoice workshop in the area around their school. Photovoice is a creative and participatory method where participants capture photographs and associated stories of their experience and knowledge of an issue. Small groups went out with a member of staff from the school and a member of the project team into the neighbourhood around the school, to answer the following questions using the cameras on school iPads: • “What is something about the local area that makes you proud?” • “What is something about the local area that you wish was better?” In a second workshop, the children to asked each other questions like "what is being shown here?" and "why is this important to you?" and recorded this to give context to the images. The children then completed an exercise in which they prioritised the images the feel represents them the most. These images highlight the key findings of this workshop.
