Audio Essay 004: All One
Description
All One is the fourth and final audio essay created as part of Botanical Colour: The Redpath Way, a community heritage project by Makepeace Studio CIC, led by artist Abi Makepeace with project support from Daisy Buckle. The audio essays are intended to be experienced alongside the accompanying publication, produced in an edition of 2,000 copies and first distributed as part of the Botanical Colour: The Redpath Way exhibition.
The title All One reflects Margaret and David Redpath’s holistic worldview and the influence of their Quaker faith on their relationship with making, materials, community, and the natural world. This audio essay explores ideas of connection, stewardship, shared knowledge, and the belief that creative practice is deeply intertwined with ecological and social relationships.
Through narration and oral history interviews, the essay brings together reflections from members of the Redpath family, friends, artists, and collaborators. Contributors include Hana Wilde, Margaret and David Redpath’s granddaughter, and their children Tim Redpath, Stephen Redpath, and Kevin Redpath, alongside Morwel Palmer, a friend of Margaret Redpath, Maura Hazelden, Andrew Johnson, and Thomas Ben Morris. Their memories and perspectives offer insight into the values, relationships, and communities that shaped the Redpaths’ lives and work.
The interviews were recorded during 2026 in Pembrokeshire and online as part of the project’s oral history programme. Together with archival research and newly written narration, these recordings form part of a wider exploration of the Redpaths’ legacy and their enduring influence on natural dyeing, creative practice, and community knowledge-sharing.
