Description
This letter was written on 28 October 1982 by R.N. White, General Secretary of the Barry Young Christian Men's Association (YMCA) . He is responding to one written to Barry YMCA by members of the Bethel Baptist Church in Barry on 16 October 1982 concerning the running of a fund-raising half marathon on a Sunday. You can read this first letter as well.
The letter suggests that as the money raised was disappointing, this is God's way of telling the YMCA to use another method and that if God approved, he would not allow the YMCA to fail. Members of the Church congregation are unable to take part because of their commitment to Sunday as a day of rest and workship.
This letter seeks to correct some of the allegations in the Church's letter which had referred to the disappointing financial result from the previous year's race. In fact the last year's race had made a net profit of just over £8000 which has enabled the YMCA to remain open.
R.N. White, the YMCA secretary, says that he believes that the £8000 profit made to save Barry YMCA in 1982 shows God has made a special exception for holding the marathon on a Sunday.
