George Cross in RFC uniform
Description
Postcard of a portrait photo of George John Cross in the uniform of the RFC. George was born in 1897, and worked as a draughtsman in an aircraft firm. He was commissioned as a pilot in first the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) then the Royal Air Force. He survived several flying mishaps but was killed in a motorcycling accident about a year after the war ended. (The inscription in ink on the back of the photo reads "sent up January 1915" [up to the front line?]).
