Letter written after the birthday lunch of Caerleon-born writer, Arthur Machen, 1943 [page 1 of 2]
Description
Arthur Machen (1863-1947) was a prolific writer of fantasy fiction who provided an influence for many who have subsequently written in this field, however, in his later years this Caerleon-born author suffered greatly from financial uncertainty. To ease his situation his friends arranged an 80th birthday lunch at which he was presented with a cheque consisting of donations from them all.
This letter, written by Janet Machen, Arthur's daughter, provides a record of the events of the day.
