R M Owen date of Birth 17 Nov 1876 Place of Birth Landore, Swansea Clubs Swansea 1899-1912 Honours Wales Position scrum half. Richard Morgan "Dicky" Owen was one of the great players of Wales' first 'Golden Era' being capped 35 times for Wales from 1901 to 1912 and winning 5 Triple Crowns and captaining Wales 3 times, the last in the 1912 win v Scotland at St Helens when he was carried shoulder high from the pitch afterwards. He also captained Swansea in 1912-13. a diminutive player of great courage ( "the pocket hercules") he was a master and innovator in his playing position pioneering the feint & reverse pass. It was such a pass that baffled the New Zealand defence in 1905 and led to Wales' try and a famous win. He built a devastating half back partnership ("the dancing dicks") at Swansea with Dick Jones in a golden period for the Club. (Club Archive)
