Tŷ Uncorn at Blaenau Ffestiniog is one of the oldest surviving domestic buildings associated with the slate industry in the town, built in about 1810 by Lord Newborough to house workers. Four dwellings clustered around a shared central chimney stack. The name means ‘one-chimney house’ and references the Welsh word for unicorn, but it is also sometimes called ‘Inkpot House’ owing to its similarity of shape to a traditional glass ink bottle.
