Silted up now, but in medeval times, this was a pond which is where the wizard Merlin said that there were two dragons beneath the pond/lake fighting which was causing disruptions to building of a masonry keep or tower. There was a red dragon symbolising the Welsh and a white dragon symbolising the foreign invaders (the Saxons).
