Description

Criccieth Castle, defended on three sides by the sea and with a rock-cut ditch on its landward side. Built initially by one of Wales' greatest castle builders, Llewelyn ab Iorweth and later added to by his grandson, Llewelyn ap Gruffydd. The castle was eventually lost to Edward 1st but much later retaken from the English by Owain Glyndwr
