Note on back reads:

“Palestine 7/7/17
These Turkish prisoners that passed through our hands during recent fighting on the front. Notice how poorly clad they are. Anything will do as clothing for them. Yet they are born fighters & especially in the trench. But their life out here at present in not a happy one, as we are constantly hammering them.

Evan Samuel Rees joined the army at 19 and served in the Middle East during the First World War. Medal no.1669, PTE E. S. Rees with the R.A.M.C (Royal Army Medical Corps). He survived the WW1 and returned to live at home in the Swansea area.
