This photo is most likely of the ‘Al-Ittihadiya Palace’ (Presidential Palace) formerly the Grand Heliopolis Hotel which was used as a British military hospital in both World Wars. The fingerprints of Evan S. Rees can be seen across photograph, most likely made during developing the photograph.
Evan Samuel Rees joined the army at 19 and served in the Middle East during the First World War. Medal no.1669, PTE E. S. Rees with the R.A.M.C (Royal Army Medical Corps). He survived the WW1 and returned to live at home in the Swansea area.
