Description
Evan Samuel Rees joined the army at 19 and served in the Middle East during the First World War. Medal no.1669, PTE E. S. Rees with the R.A.M.C (Royal Army Medical Corps). He survived the WW1 and returned to live at home in the Swansea area.
Note on the back reads:
“Palestine 07/07/1917.
A Bedouin soldier on his camel who acts as police on the Arabs who are working in the vicinity of ‘Gaya’, just after the fighting.
Note the Arab with the snake & the little ‘kiddies’ in the back-ground. Ofcourse! The first thing they ask for is ‘back-sheet’ after posing for the camera.”
