25 December 1930 SPARKS FROM PITTSBURGH By Deiniol Arfon. Three things interest those who love the old language in Pittsburgh-{ymanfa Ganu a Welsh sennon and an Eistddfod.... Though the weather was quite unfavorable, but nobody minded getting wet feet to attend the Gymanfa Ganu at First Presbyterian Church, Sixth Avenue as the cars [sheet cars?] go by the church which is in a central location. The church was full but seats were found for all, even the late comers. The Rev. R. F.. Williams, Chaplain of the Gorsedd Americanaidd [American Bards] took charge of the program. Si"gng began with Huddersfield under the direction ofthe able musician, William Morgan. Prof. Lewis led some of the hymns. About half past three, Evan Lloyd of Braddoch Pa. led his male voice choir of about forty singers. A word from the minister of the church, Dr. McCarmey. Evan Lloyd led the singing of
. The Rev. Rees T. Williams ofNew Castle, Pa gave a Welsh seflnon. The male voice choir sang the Hallelujah Chorus. Benediction by the Rev. R. E. Williams. Miss Jane Davies accompanied. The Welsh Women's Club held its annual banquet on Thursday, December 11. Eisteddfodau are being held. D. Harry Davies of Saybrook Aparfrnent is better.... Six thousand dollars was saved for Christrras, a little more than last year.
