Why we should forget the Newport Chartests
Description
Anyone considering supporting any Newport Chartist event should first read the speech of Sir John Campbell on in January 1840 in prosecution of John Frostbefore the Special Commission at Monmouth.
They will then realise that the real Welsh hero of the uprising was Sir Thomas Phillips the Mayor of Newport, who was shot by the Chartists before any shot was fired against them:but who despite his injury displayed courage and defended his town from the muderous rioters.
