Dr Mary Eppynt Phillips' fundraising tour for Serbian hospitals during the First World War
Description
These pages are from a scrapbook compiled by Dr Mary Eppynt Phillips outlining the fundraising work for the activities of the Scottish Women's Hospital in Serbia during the First World War. They include newspaper cuttings, appeals to the press and details of Dr Phillips' lecture tour across Britain. Having returned to Britain from her work as senior physician in Valjevo due to ill health, Dr Mary Eppynt Phillips from Merthyr Cynog set about raising funds for the hospitals. She undertook a lecture tour to share the work of the hospitals in treating typhoid sufferers and wounded soldiers. For her fundraising work, Dr Eppynt Phillips received the thanks of both the British and Serbian governments and received a Serbian decoration in 1918.
