Group of men in uniform including Tom Wibberley, 1930s
Description
Tom Wibberley from Gorseinon had fought as a private during the First World War. A baker by trade, he served as part of the 252 Siege Battery Ammunition Column. In this photograph he is pictured fifth from the right in the second row. The uniform is unknown but may have been that of a prison officer. It is understood that during WW2, being over service age, he was part of the police or special forces on the Home Front. Tom's real name was Frank but was known to everyone as Tom.

The building in the background is Dyffryn House, St. Nicholas near Cardiff.
During World War 2, Duffryn House was used as a police Training school.
The uniform worn by the men is that of the Glamorgan Constabulary. The Sergeant in the front row is Ronald Baker, who was an Instructor at Dyffryn House Police Training School. He later went on to become the Deputy Chief Constable of the Glamorgan force.
