At St Athans Boys Village used to thank a Miner, who'd worked for Ocean Colliery for a very long time, and his wife for their dedication to the colliery by making them Mayor and Mayoress for the camp week. They would have their own cottage and some of the lads would be their household staff. A nice idea i think.
