yr ardd lin 1569, Arthleen 1688, Arlene 1816, Gardd-llîn or Arleen 1836. 'the flax-garden' with the definite article y (now generally dropped), gardd and llin 'flax' formerly grown extensively in the Severn valley / Dyffryn Hafren.
