Mr Peter Cyril's wife, Vernester a midwife and ward manager at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on 2 December 1999 for services to community relations in South East Wales.
On the morning of the investiture, Mrs Cyril was joined by her husband Peter, and their two children Mark and Trevor.
