These substantial houses were built in the 1890's to accommodate the many new residents who were coming to Barry after the opening of the Docks in 1889. Some people with enterprise opened up their front rooms and became Shopkeepers, supplying the basic needs to these families. Over the years, this area would become the main shopping centre for this part of Town.
