Description

This armchair was made in the town of Brynmawr during the Depression of the 1930s. The enterprise was an 'experiment' set up by the Quakers to tackle mass unemployment in the town. A dozen men were quickly skilled-up and within a year were themselves training young apprentices. It was a great success and commissions came from all over the UK. Sadly, the venture was short-lived and forced to close in 1940 following the outbreak of the Second World War.
