Shearing Cake

Ingredients

  • half a pound plain flour
  • six ounces moist sugar
  • four ounces butter
  • peel of half a lemon, grated
  • one egg, well beaten
  • quarter pint milk
  • one teaspoonful baking powder
  • two teaspoonfuls caraway seeds
  • a little nutmeg

Method

  • Rub the fat into the flour, add the other dry ingredients and mix with the beaten egg and milk.
  • Line a cake tin with greaseproof paper and put the mixture into it.
  • Bake in a moderately hot oven for approximately one hour.
