Description

Ingredients



  • three large cupfuls plain flour

  • half a pound sugar

  • half a pound bacon dripping

  • a little bicarbonate of soda, dissolved in a little tepid water and buttermilk

  • one pound dried fruit (currants and raisins)

  • two or three eggs, well beaten

  • buttermilk



Method



  • Rub the fat into the flour and work in the other dry ingredients.

  • Mix gradually with the beaten eggs and add sufficient buttermilk to give a fairly soft consistency.

  • Grease a cake tin, put the mixture into it and bake in a fairly hot oven for approximately an hour and a half.
