Description

Ingredients

plain flour
salt
sugar
currants
a little suet
bicarbonate of soda
boiling water
buttermilk
(Quantities were measured by rule of thumb)


Method

Put all the dry ingredients in a bowl.
Dissolve the soda in the warm water and allow to cool before adding the buttermilk to it.
Pour this liquid gradually into the dry ingredients and stir well with a wooden spoon.
Put the mixture in a linen cloth, tie securely and immerse in boiling water.
Boil for approximately two hours.


Slice and serve with white sauce.
