ss Ethelwalda

Description

In October 1911, the ss Ethelwalda, anchored off Port Talbot, dragged her anchors in a storm and came ashore near the North Pier at Aberavon Beach. Her cargo of French pit props was subsequently washed overboard and strewn along the beach. The crew were rescued by a breeches buoy and taken to the Jersey Beach Hotel.
