The Burgess Green Hotel in Ysguthan Road. Its name is connected with the Burgesses who, under the Portreeve, governed the Borough prior to July 1861 when prominent local residents, alarmed at the state of the town, petitioned for an Act of Incorporation which swept away their power and replaced it with the present system of Mayor and Councillors.
