Threatening letter from a Rebecca supporter
Description
Hundreds of letters threatening action and violence were written to the press and individuals across west Wales under the name Rebecca. This threatening letter was written to Reverend Collins on 11 September 1843 in response to his refusal to accept a measure put forward by a committee to reduce the number of Turnpike gates in the area.
Unfortunately, there is no record of whether the Reverend changed his mind following the letter, and we do not know if Rebecca carried out the threat. The Letter was given to the museum by Reverend Collins’ son 84 years after the event.
