Flintlock Whistle
Description
This whistle were given to Enoch Rees, Head Gardener at Plas Llangoedmor near Cardigan by Colonel Herbert Vaughan, owner of Plas Llangoedmor, to help protect his property and family from the threat of attack.
The parish of Llangoedmor was situated on the river Teifi, on the turnpike road from Cardigan to Newcastle-Emlyn. Colonel Herbert Vaughan, being a member of the landed gentry, might have financed the Turnpike Trust who built this road. On 23 June 1843 Rebecca launched an attack on the tollgates of Cardigan. Accompanied by about 200 of her children, she attacked the Rhos Gate and house, then marched through Cardigan town and proceeded to Rhydyfuwch Gate and then on to Llangoedmor gate.
