Description

Ink and watercolour on paper, John Piper circa 1945.

Given to Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales by a private collector, 2014.

The landscape here is mainly grey except for a few dabs of colour to describe the terraced housing. This is Bethesda in Gwynedd, a place
which grew up as a slate and stone quarrying town. The terraced houses were built to accommodate the workers. Piper has written little
notes on the right hand side, which shows this is a study of the area.
