Description

Derwen Bakehouse was built by Evan Jenkins in 1900 as a small business for his two daughters, Catherine Jane and Mary Elizabeth. He bought Derwen House, in Thespian Street, Aberystwyth and built the bakehouse in the back garden. Derwen Bakehouse closed when Catherine Jane died in 1914. The building was abandoned and neglected, but in the early 1980s the new house owners rediscovered it behind their garden shed. It was reopened as a working bakery in 1987.
