A view of Barry Pier and Barry Pier Station c.1908, two of the Barry Railway (Red Funnel Fleet) paddle steamers are shown , the 'Gwalia' or 'Devonia' at the pontoon and the 'Barry' approaching. A Barry Railway locomotive runs around its train to prepare to depart from the station. The station building is at the bottom right with the sloping covered walkway to the pontoon to the its left.
Other points of interest -
The railway style signal visible between the steamers was to indicate to the approaching steamers if the pontoon was clear or occupied.
The dark area at the far end of the platform shows where coal was unloaded from railway wagons and lowered by means of a hydraulic lift (the black structure alongside) for bunkering the steamers.
The dock entrance was to the left beyond the wall across the ends of the railway tracks.
