Description

Tinkinswood Burial Chamber dates from the Neolithic period of Britain. It was originally covered in earth and thus the burial chamber is all that remains of what was once a village.The Dolmen is of the Severn-Cotswold tomb type and one of the largest in Britain. It is made of Limestone weighing about 40 tons, a similar weight to an articulated lorry.This burial chamber housed approximately 920 human bones from over 50 individuals, broken pottery and flint were also found during the 1914 excavation.
