Description

Letter written to Thomas Benbow Phillips, Esq. in Pelotas from Christopher James, at Rio Grande, dated 3 April 1868.

Christopher James reported that he had received Thomas Benbow Phillips's valued favour the previous day, and a box containing 4lb of fresh butter. He was very grateful for both. He enclosed 8 milreis for payment, and should there be any change, Thomas Benbow Phillips was asked to give it to his son. Christopher James asked if Thomas Benbow Phillips would supply him with 2lb of butter per week, whatever the cost, so long as the quality was good. Mrs James was very anxious about Winifred, but was quite happy to hear from Thomas Benbow Phillips in his letter of the 2 April that all was well.
