Description

Letter written to Thomas Benbow Phillips by Christopher James at Rio Grande, dated 29 February 1868.

Christopher James was very glad to receive the letter from Thomas Benbow Phillips's son, but he noted that the letter must have been dictated. However, he asked if he could, in future, receive a letter from his son without any alterations, and blots or mistakes should be ignored. Mr and Mrs James were saddened to hear that their “afilhada” (goddaughter) had been poorly. Dr Camard had been unwell and gone to the Serra to a place belonging to Joao Simoes Lopes.
