Copy of a letter written to Captain A Walter at Bar of Pelotas by Thomas Benbow Phillips from Rio Grande, dated 15 January 1874
Thomas Benbow Phillips explained to Captain A Walter that Captain Dunn had left per Caldeson for Monte Video en route for England, which meant that Thomas Benbow Phillips would have more time to examine Captain Walter's accounts. He hoped to forward him an up to date account shortly, which should please Captain Dunn more than the previous accounts he had read.

It was dated 29 December 1873 . . . owner of “Beautiful Star” . . . with Capt A Walter and the words 'Cardiff', 'Cadiz', 'coal-dust', 'on salt freight', 'charged to mate' can be deciphered with various corresponding totals in the margin. The final total was £463.18.
